Have you ever heard whispers in the McKeldin Library stacks, but nobody’s nearby? Or felt a sudden chill walking around the Stamp that you can’t shake? Or heard a piano playing in Marie Mount Hall on a dark and stormy night?

Maybe you’ve been joined by the eponymous Ms. Mount, Alma Preinkert or one of the many other spirits alleged to haunt campus.

Anne Turkos, university archivist emerita, long ago mapped out the most haunted places on campus in a campus ghost tour, and continues to add to her list of spirit sightings.

“The annual Halloween explosion of ghost stories really helps us tell a little bit more about the history of the campus,” Turkos said. “We’re bringing out the old legends one more time.”
