# A Day of Remembering Jordan McNair

Terps defensive back Vincent Flythe avoids a tackle from pint-sized opponents yesterday during the Jordan McNair Field Day at JC Nalle Elementary School in Washington, D.C., on the one-year anniversary of the sophomore offensive lineman’s death.

Forty Maryland football players and staff participated in the community event, as well as the Jordan McNair Health & Wellness Sports Clinic at the McDonogh School, McNair’s alma mater. Local youth met with the Terps, who donned jerseys bearing their teammate’s No. 79, to play games, learn about heat-related injuries and hear players’ stories about their friendship with McNair.

He suffered heatstroke at a team workout last May and died 15 days later. Following an external review by sports medicine expert Rod Walters, the UMD Athletic Department undertook a series of reforms to ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes.
