Dancing Through the Decades
Seventh Annual Flash Mob Honors Men’s Basketball’s 100th Season
Terps went back in time to showcase their Maryland pride—and their moves—Sunday as the No. 17-ranked men’s basketball team clashed with No. 9 Michigan at Xfinity Center.
Amid a sellout crowd, 4,000 students participated in UMD’s seventh annual flash mob during the Big Ten matchup, a 69–62 Maryland loss. This year’s dance featured a mashup of songs spanning the decades in honor of the team’s 100th season, with a “Testudo Time Machine” theme.
Gates opened 90 minutes early for the students, the only ones to know about the secret dance, so they’d have enough time to quickly learn the motions before other fans poured in. This year’s flash mob, which has been choreographed by former Maryland dance team member Megan Piluk ’13 since its inception as well as Jen Miller since 2014, included everything from a “Dirty Dancing” hit to “YMCA” to a Backstreet Boys favorite and beyond.
