# 5 Alums Elected to Foundation Board of Trustees

Five Terps will lend their expertise to the university as newly elected members of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation Board of Trustees.

As trustees, Rachel H. Bell ’93, Mark K. Lewis ’87, Cate Luzio ’97, Kenneth R. “Ken” Rehmann ’84 and Stephen M. “Steve” Schanwald ’77 will promote philanthropic support of and serve as advocates for the university. They will also serve as advisers to foundation and university leadership and provide oversight for the investment and distribution of private funds to UMD.

"We are excited to welcome five amazing Terps to our foundation board this year. As we accelerate our philanthropic goals and impact, their energy, expertise and insights will be essential," said Jim Harris, vice president for university relations and president of the foundation. "In addition, their long-standing relationships with the university make them valuable and enthusiastic ambassadors during this transformational moment for Maryland."

Their three-year volunteer terms on the 63-member board will start on July 1. They will serve their entire terms during UMD’s $2.5 billion fundraising effort, *Forward: the University of Maryland Campaign for the Fearless*.

"Our newly elected members are outstanding individuals who will make a real difference for our university, especially now as the [*Forward*](https://forward.umd.edu/) campaign is in full swing," said board chair Al Carey '74. "Many thanks to Craig Thompson '92 and the members of the nominating committee for conducting the extensive search and selecting the new trustees. This is our succession plan in action. Those we bring onto the board today will be tomorrow's board leaders. We are in good hands with this cohort."
